Editorial Policy

Our Mission

Agora is a student-run newspaper dedicated to providing an independent student perspective on school life, current events, sport, culture, and opinion at AGSB and AGGS. Inspired by the Ancient Greek concept of the “Agora” — an open gathering space for discussion — we aim to create a platform where student voices can be heard respectfully and responsibly.

Our editorial decisions are guided by fairness, integrity, inclusivity, and open dialogue.

Editorial Independence

Agora is produced by students, for students. While we are supported and advised by staff members, editorial decisions are made by the student Editorial Team.

The views expressed in published articles belong to the individual authors and do not necessarily reflect the views of AGSB, AGGS, school staff, or the wider school community.

We are committed to maintaining independence in our reporting while adhering to school guidelines and safeguarding responsibilities.

Accuracy And Fairness

We strive to ensure that all content is:

  • Factually accurate at the time of publication
  • Fair and balanced
  • Based on credible sources where appropriate

Writers are encouraged to verify information before submission. The Editorial Team reviews all content prior to publication and may request revisions where necessary.

If a significant factual error is identified after publication, we will correct it promptly and transparently.

Opinion And Commentary

Opinion pieces are an important part of Agora. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage respectful debate.

However, opinion articles must:

  • Be clearly labelled as opinion
  • Avoid defamatory, discriminatory, or harmful statements
  • Respect individuals’ privacy and dignity

We reserve the right to edit or decline submissions that do not meet these standards.

Safeguarding And Respect

As a student publication, safeguarding is a priority. We do not publish content that promotes:

  • Hate speech
  • Bullying or harassment
  • Discrimination
  • Harmful or unsafe behaviour

We aim to create a respectful environment where students feel safe sharing their perspectives.

Submissions And Editing

Students from AGSB and AGGS are welcome to contribute. By submitting content, contributors agree that:

  • Their work is original
  • It does not infringe copyright
  • The Editorial Team may edit for clarity, grammar, length, and compliance with school policies

Major changes will be discussed with the author wherever possible.

Transparency And Accountability

We are committed to being open about how we operate. The Editorial Team meets regularly and can be contacted in person during scheduled meetings or via email at agsbagora@outlook.com.

We welcome feedback and constructive criticism as part of maintaining a responsible and representative student publication.
